Thermal Foggers vs. Cold Foggers

All throughout 2020, we've heard nothing but news about disinfectants, sanitizers, Covid19, and even the different companies trying their best to support us. Various companies are producing excellent products and disinfectants to help people out, and now it is up to the general public to choose the appropriate disinfectants and sanitizers and keep everything sanitized and clean.

With the pandemic outbreak, many new ways to sanitize and disinfect have emerged, making it confusing which product is actually effective, what the differences are between them, and how they work.

The Difference Between the Thermal Fogger and the Cold Fogger

The thermal fogger, as its name states, uses heat to vaporize the fogging solution it contains. Thermal foggers have a tank for storage that can hold about 1.2 litres to around 10 litres of solution. The thermal fogger machine has a pump that is used to send the solution from the container through the heating assembly located on the front part of the fogger.

The fog that is created by the thermal fogger can be quite dense fog but is extremely useful in penetrating the hard to reach areas and surfaces. The heat also takes the moisture away from the disinfectant, so the application is dry. The micron size is quite small which allows the disinfectant to be airborne eliminating pathogens in the air as well as fully covering the surfaces.

The cold fogger is just the opposite of the thermal fogger. Also called ULV (ultra-low volume) foggers, they do not use heat to vaporize the fogging liquid but instead use the method of cold spraying, which in the majority of the cases uses the air pressure to spray the liquid out in the small particles. They produce fog using pressure in one of two ways: either the solution is pumped through a high-pressure nozzle or the solution is slowly sent through a vortex of high-speed air. The pressure breaks up the liquid into tiny droplets, which then spray out as a low volume fog.

Uses of Thermal Foggers and Cold Foggers

Thermal and ULV foggers have similar uses in many aspects. Both can spray either water or plant-based fogging solution and can be used to disinfect rooms and control pathogens, mold, and viruses indoors and outdoors. We can use them to disinfect our everyday spaces such as homes, offices, gyms, bars, and medical clinics effectively and quickly. They use less solution than traditional spraying and wiping and saves time while allowing better coverage.

As stated earlier, thermal foggers use heat and are mainly used for the process of killing viruses, pests, and the problems regarding them in both indoor and outdoor areas, based on the solution which you use. It produces smaller droplets making them ideal for such applications as small, hidden areas. Thermal foggers generate dry fog therefore you don’t need to wipe or rinse. This dry fogging device can quickly and effectively disinfect any electrical device without the worry of damage!
