Where the 675 really stood out was in the way it drove, it had a faster steering rack than the McLaren P1 and it was immediately apparent that the LT had plenty of the finesse and feel which was previously lacking in McLaren’s line up. The letters LT are an homage to the McLaren F1 GTR Longtail race car, as the McLaren 675LT is the lightest, most powerful, fastest and most track-focused model in the McLaren Super Series family (which also includes the 650S and 625C). The engine is mated to the same 7-speed dual clutch transmission as in the 12C but it has been recalibrated for faster shift times. The 650S comes with new aluminium forged wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres having wider contact patch than the previous versions for improved grip.
In order to improve ride quality, McLaren used ProActive Chassis Control (PCC) which is a derivative of McLaren's F1 active suspension system. The system consists of dampers on either sides of the car which are hydraulically linked which allows the car to resist roll. The dampers have been divided into sections for rebound and compression. The front damper's compression is linked to the rear damper's rebound.
The carbon fibre MonoCell provides the 675LT with an unrivalled combination of lightness, safety and stiffness, in common with all models in the McLaren Super Series. But an obsessive weight-saving strategy unlocks a further 100kg reduction compared with the 650S. From lightweight carbon fibre racing seats to a 1mm thinner windscreen, no opportunity to save weight has been overlooked.
